Gators advance to final 18-holes, set to compete for match play berth
Sunday, May 24, 2026 | Women's Golf
Florida shot 4-under to move into a three-way tie for seventh and are tied for the final two match play spots as the top-8 advance tomorrow.
CARLSBAD, Calif. – After tying the program's second-lowest round (-3) at the National Championship yesterday, the No. 3 Florida women's golf team was a shot better (-4) in round three today to advance to the fourth and final round of stroke play on Sunday. The Gators are tied for 7th and in position to make the top-8 match play cut tomorrow as live coverage begins on Golf Channel from 5:30-9:30 p.m. ET.
Tied with No. 10 Duke and No. 23 Arizona State, the Gators and pair of Devils are all grouped together tomorrow starting at 2:36 p.m. The trio are projected to compete for the final two match play spots barring a big climb or fall by teams, as ahead of them by five strokes in T5 is Arkansas and Iowa State (-3) and four shots behind in 10th sits Eastern Michigan. The first four well-positioned as No. 1 Stanford (-21) leads followed by No. 2 USC (-16), No. 21 Oklahoma State (-10) and No. 5 Texas (-6).
A spot in match play would be the second appearance in program history (2017) since the format was added in 2015.
Aided by a 7-under first nine holes, UF posted its second straight under par round (-4) to produce a 54-hole score of 866 (+2), and continued to climb the leaderboard, moving up four spots after teeing off the round T11 and being T23 following the opening round. The 866 (+2) is the program's best three-round total by par and score at the National Championships, beating the previous best of 869 (+5) set in 1998 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis.
Since the top-15 cut was introduced in the match play era, the Gators have reached the fourth and final round of stroke play for the first time in program history. A note on this milestone, is that in both 2017 and 2019, the final 18 holes were canceled due to inclement weather. However, Florida was comfortably inside the top-15 cut line both times, sitting eight shots clear in 2019 and 14 ahead in 2017 while tied for fifth, and also qualified for match play that season. In 2019, UF was only three shots back of the top-8 match-play position entering the final round of stroke play.
After missing last year's final 18-holes by three shots, the Gators advance by 11 this year.
All four counting scores were par or better with three under par, and the non-counter was only a 1-over, the lowest non-counting mark this week. Siuue Wu continued her stellar play and shot a 2-under 70 to place T8 (-6) and four shots back of the solo lead as the Individual National Champion is crowned after 72-holes.
The sophomore, who tied the championship record (64, -8) yesterday, shot 4-under through her first nine holes as her 15th birdie, tied tournament leading, moved her into a tie for the solo lead at the time. On her fourth hole of the round, she made her first bogey – her par putt stopped on the left edge of the cup – in 23 holes as the 22 holes prior Wu made 10 birdies and 12 pars.
She is contention to be the second Gator to win the NCAA Individual National Title, joining Page Dunlap in 1986, the year UF won back-to-back team national championships.
Logging her second under par round this week, Elaine Widjaja had a 1-under 71, which only featured one bogey that didn't fall until her 16th hole. Also posting a 1-under 71 was Megan Propeck, who has continued to improve each round (75-72-71). Playing in her fourth nationals, she was bogey-free.
The first Gator off the tee today, Katelyn Huber gave the group an important even-par 72. A freshman, the round was six shots better from her round one and three yesterday. The Gainesville native has four rounds of or better in her first postseason action.
Post Round Quotes - Head Coach Emily Glaser
On the team's mentality to continue to fight after round one…
I am very proud. Obviously, we didn't start out the way we wanted, but it really hasn't been any panic or anything in the group. They've been steady and bought into the process of one day at a time, which is part of the reason why we played so well all year. They've continued that over the last couple days and it's paid off.
On freshman Katelyn Huber's performance today…
It's a really positive thing. Certainly, she has the physical talent to do it. No matter how good you are, there's still a learning curve there as a freshman. Its your first time in this sort of situation, and I think she sort of processed that through those first couple days. She certainly looked more comfortable out there today and was able to put up a nice round.
On Siuue Wu in contention to compete for individual title…
She is incredibly talented and very deserving of the position she's put herself in. I hope she can go out there tomorrow and enjoy it, and be as free as possible. I also know as much as she would like to win individually, she's looking to put up a nice number for her teammates as well and I have a feeling that's where her focus will be.
On message to team tomorrow…
I don't really think you can play effectively focusing on the scoreboard. We have had success this year largely in focusing on ourselves and our own process, and that has to be our goal and our message for tomorrow. I don't think we would change anything at this point. If we are able to do that at a good level, the rest will take care of itself.
