AUSTIN, Texas - Two members of the Florida softball team were recognized Tuesday for their excellence on the field and in the classroom, as the College Sports Communicators named Taylor Shumaker and Kenleigh Cahalan to its 2026 Academic All-America teams.
Shumaker earned First Team Academic All-America honors, while Cahalan was selected to the second team. Both received the distinction for the first time in their careers.
A sophomore outfielder from Fullerton, Shumaker posted a 3.68 GPA in telecommunications while putting together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history.
Starting all 64 games, she led the Gators in batting average (.445), hits (92), doubles (19), runs scored (92), walks (47) and on-base percentage (.544), while adding 18 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Cahalan, a senior shortstop from Trussville, Ala., paired a 3.95 GPA in education sciences with a career-best season at the plate.
She started all 64 games and hit .377 with 17 home runs, 17 doubles, 68 RBIs and 54 runs scored. Cahalan also posted a .711 slugging percentage and a .444 on-base percentage.
The selections make Shumaker and Cahalan the sixth and seventh Florida student-athletes across all sports to earn CSC Academic All-America recognition during the 2025-26 academic year.
Florida softball has earned 28 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors. Under head coach Tim Walton, 15 players have earned 25 CSC Academic All-America accolades.
