Shelton Set for Sixth U.S. Open

New York, N.Y. – Florida tennis alum Ben Shelton is set to compete in the final Grand Slam event of the year, starting on August 30.
Men's singles competition is slated to commence on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. Shelton will hit the court for his first-round match on Monday at 7 p.m., facing Tallon Griekspoor.
Last year Shelton advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Open defeating Ignacio Buse and Pablo Carreno Busta. The American was forced to exit the tournament last year after an injury during his match against Adrain Mannarino. Shelton advanced to the Round of 32 the past two years, but his best showing was in 2023 where he reached the semifinals facing No.2 Novak Djokovic.
This year marks Shelton's sixth time competing in the U.S. Open and does so going in with his second-best ranking yet coming in at No. 9 in the ATP rankings.
Shelton is coming off of his fourth ATP title of the year, claiming his crown at the National Bank Open just two weeks ago where he defeated six opponents in straight sets. The 23-year-old made a significant jump in the rankings following his victory, rising to No. 6 in the ATP ranks.
In Grand Slams this year, Shelton has put up a 5-3 record, with his best appearance at the start of the tour year at the Australian Open where the American reached the quarterfinal falling to No. 2 Jannik Sinner.
