Cheruiyot Named USTFCCCA Men’s Division I Athlete of the Week

Cheruiyot finished first at the John McNichols Invitational with a time of 23:20.7
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Kelvin Cheruiyot has been named the USTFCCCA Men's Division I Athlete of the Week, following his performance at the John McNichols Invitational, where he finished first with a time 23:20.7.
Cheruiyot helped power the Men's team to a second place finish with 119 points. The Men's Cross Country team, currently ranked at No. 21, outperformed multiple teams ranked above them at their second meet of the season, including No. 7 Northern Arizona, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 11 Washington State, No. 12 Eastern Kentucky, No. 16 Butler, No, 17 Michigan State, No. 19 Harvard, No. 20 Georgia.
Cheruiyot continuously climbed during the race, crossing the 3k checkpoint at ninth and the 5k checkpoint at sixth, before taking first place during the final stretch of the race. Cheruiyot, currently ranked at ninth on the FloTrack Division I Men's Individual rankings, beat the No. 1, No. 6, No. 12, No. 14, No. 32, and No. 39 runners in the race.
The Gators return to action on October 9th, as they head to Madison, Wis. for the Nuttycombe Invitational.
