The No. 10 University of Florida women's golf team grabbed its third consecutive top-four finish as the Lady Gators finished second in the Dodge ACC/SEC Challenge. Inclement weather canceled the final round Sunday.
"We're playing okay," head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "Everyone needs to continue to work on their individual needs to reach their goals. That's all we're trying to do. If each person does their part, then we'll be successful."
Top-ranked Duke became the first ACC school to win the challenge since it began in 2000. Auburn won the challenge in 2000 and 2002, and Florida won in 2001.
Freshman Naree Song (Bradenton, Fla.), who has finished in the top 10 in three consecutive tournaments, tied for seventh place. Song carded an even-par score of 142 (72-70).
Junior Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) had her highest finish of the season as she tied for 15th place with a 149 (76-73). Vander Lende's round of 73 Saturday marked her best round this season.
Other finishers for the Lady Gators included sophomores Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) and Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Colombia) who tied for 18th place with a 150 (+8). Cho carded an even-par round of 70 Saturday. Sophomore Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton, Fla.) finished in 23rd place after carding a 152 (72-80).
Florida returns to the golf course Nov. 2-4, 2003 at the Hooters Collegiate Match-Play Championship. The tournament is hosted by the NGCA and will be played at the Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
