Sunday, February 22, 2004 | Women's Golf
The No. 12 University of Florida women's golf team is tied for seventh place at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic as the Lady Gators fired a 310 in the first round.
Duke is in first place (285), followed by Georgia (292), Oklahoma (293), Southern California (297) and Tulane (301). Florida is tied with Auburn (310).
"We didn't have a great round today," Florida head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "The group we have here should score 300 at the most on this course. We're going to stay focused and hopefully have a better day tomorrow."
Leading the way for the Lady Gators are sophomore Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) and senior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) who carded a four-over par 76. It was Dick's season-best round. Cho and Dick are tied for 24th place.
Junior Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) and sophomore Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton, Fla.) each carded a 79 for the first round to tie for 44th place. Sophomore Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Colombia) had 80 strokes for the day to tie for 51st place.
The Lady Gators will tee off Monday morning for the second round of the tournament.
