
Spyrou Finishes Eighth at Blazer Classic

Freshman leads the way for the Gators in Alabama
HOOVER, Ala. – That's two collegiate races and two top ten finishes for Vasileia Spyrou after the freshman took eighth and was the top freshman finisher at the Blazer Classic on Friday at Veterans Park.
Spyrou claimed another eighth-place finish two weeks ago at the FSU XC Invitational and led the way for Florida in Alabama with her time of 20:28.45 in the women's 6,000-meter race.
The women's team finished ninth with Payton Capes-Davis (51st, 21:50.30), Emily Culley (52nd, 21:54.90), Emily Jones (56th, 22:04.45) and Cheyenne Young (57th, 22:06.08) rounding out the top five behind Spyrou.
Trevor Foley led the way for the men's team, finishing 14th with a time of 24:02.21 in the 8k race.
The men's team finished sixth with Angel Vicioso (41st, 24:48.71), Ethan Geiger (44th, 24:52.81), Hugh Brittenham (48th, 25:00.52) and Reed Legg (49th, 25:01.61) finishing behind Foley to complete the top five for the team.
Arkansas won both the men's and women's races at the Blazer Classic.
The Gators are scheduled to compete in the SEC Championships on Oct. 30 in Baton Rouge, La. which will serve as the final cross country meet of the fall for UF.
