Friday, October 13, 2023 | Cross Country
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators Women's Cross Country team closed out their 2023 regular season with an impressive fifth place finish at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
The No. 9 Florida Gators participated in the Women's 6k Championship, lining them up for competition against twenty-one nationally ranked programs.
The Gators were propelled to their finish by 2022 NCAA Cross Country Runner-Up Parker Valby, who placed first overall while also making her 2023 season debut on Friday. Valby, despite the consistent rain throughout the contest, took the lead from the start and never looked back. As the race progressed, she slowly pulled away from the leaders. When it was all said and done Valby crossed the finish line with a time of 19:17.2. This mark is a new Wisconsin Course record.
However, a team cannot place highly at a competitive race like Nuttycombe without a complete team effort. Flomena Asekol, Elise Thorner and Allison Wilson all recorded top forty finishes placing 16th, 30th and 38th respectively. The final Gator to score was Lucinda Rourke who finished 177th. In the end, the Gators totaled 262 points, recording victories over No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 8 Washington and No. 10 Colorado.
