COLUMBIA, S.C. –Two scores in the final 12 minutes gave No. 23 South Carolina soccer a 2-0 win over Florida Thursday evening in front of 4,500 at the Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.
Thursday's match was Florida's second consecutive and fifth overall versus a top-25 opponent, which leads all Southeastern Conference programs.
Thursday's Scoring:
After an opening first half where the Gators gained more possession as the half wore on, control was more even in the final 45 minutes.
The Gamecock's score in the 79th minute came on the second of consecutive corner kicks. Emma Bucci headed in Cuyler Zulauf's corner kick at the near post corner for her first goal of the year.
The second goal started with a ball from the top of the USC half sent to just above Florida's box in the 85th minute. Catherine Barry caught up with the ball, took a couple of touches before sending a right-footed curling shot to the far corner to give the Gamecock's the final 2-0 margin. It ups her team-high season goals total to nine.
For the match, USC finished with a 11-7 advantage in shots.
What Coach Bohon Said:
On tonight's match:
"It was another competitive SEC game in a really fun away atmosphere as South Carolina always draws a good crowd.
"Really disappointed for our players because I felt like we did enough to come away with something tonight. But a credit to South Carolina as they finished in the last 10 minutes or so with two special moments that made a difference in the game.
"While I'm grateful and proud of our team's effort, we've got to be able to come away with something in the road. So we'll put our heads together and get back to work, because we've got a big Georgia game coming up on Sunday."– Florida Head Coach Samantha Bohon
