
No. 15 Gators Men’s Tennis Dealt a 1-4 Loss by No. 33 Georgia

After their 1-4 loss to the Bulldogs, the Gators are now 46-67-1 against Georgia and are 0-2 in conference play.
ATHENS, Ga. – The Gators Men's Tennis team went on the road to No. 33 Georgia for their second conference matchup of the season. The team was received their second conference loss from the Bulldogs and are now 6-5 on the season.
The Gators started from behind with a loss of the doubles point after losses on courts two and three. The pairing of Jeremy Jin and Tanapatt Nirundorn on court two fell to Will Jansen and Gabriele Vulpitta of Georgia in a 2-6 match. The court three duo of Kevin Edengren and Andreas Timini lost their match 5-7 to Derrick Chen and Noah Johnston, which secured the doubles point for the Bulldogs. Court one was manned by No. 89 ranked Lorenzo Claverie and Henry Jefferson, but the two did not get to finish their match against No. 64 ranked Arda Azkara and Santiago Giamichelle, leaving the score with the Gators up 3-1 in the tiebreak.
Florida had some hope early in the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory by Timini on court six over No. 77 Gabriele Vulpitta to even the score a 1-1. The tide shifted back into Georgia's favor after Edengren fell to Noah Johnston on court five (3-6, 4-6) and Jefferson retired in his match against No. 42 Arda Azkara on court 1 (7-6 (7-2), 2-5), putting the Bulldogs back with a 1-3 lead. Georgia's victory was sealed by Derrick Chen on court four in a long 7-5, 7-6 (11-9) victory over Nirundorn. The teams did not play out the rest of the matches, leaving courts two and three unfinished. On court two, No. 41 Pablo Perez Ramos was headed to a third set against No. 30 Will Jansen. Claverie was in the middle of his third set on court three against No. 60 Santiago Giamichelle when the dual concluded.

The Wildcats are 8-3 on the season and 1-0 in the SEC and are 18-54 against the Gators in program history. The two teams previously met during the ITA Kickoff Weekend first round, where the Gators emerged with a 4-2 victory.
Following their third straight road SEC match, the Gators will return home to face the No. 34 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 12 p.m. EST. The Gators are 33-9-1 against the Gamecocks, who are 8-1 on the season and 1-0 to start SEC play.
