Gators easily make the grade on the latest APR scorecard

A look at UF's scores in the latest APR released by the NCAA.

The University of Florida's athletic department has excelled between the lines this school year, winning eight Southeastern Conference regular-season team titles, a national title in men's indoor track, and the second-year women's lacrosse program taking the American Lacrosse Conference title.

The women's tennis team is playing Stanford tonight for the national title.

The Gators are also making the grade in the classroom based on the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) institutional scores – which measure academic eligibility, retention and graduation rates – released Tuesday afternoon by the NCAA.

None of Florida's 21 NCAA-sanctioned teams finished below the cutoff mark of 925, which can lead to losses in scholarships and other penalties

The Florida softball team's multiyear rate of 993 – measuring the program's performance over four academic years (2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10) – was UF's top score, edging the women's cross country team's 992.

The UF football program posted a four-year score of 976 and the men's basketball program had a 964 rate over the four-year period measured in the latest report, each program showing an improvement from their last scores.

“We've enjoyed watching our student-athletes have success in the athletic arena this season,'' Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said. “But today's APR shows that our student-athletes are finding academic success – which is really our most important mission.''
