On this date in Gators history: Sept. 3, 2005

Urban Urban Meyer's much-anticipated debut as coach of the Gators was far from perfect. It was, however, a successful 2005 season opener, with a 32-14 win over Wyoming at Florida Field.

Chris Leak passed for 320 yards and three touchdowns, along the way breaking Steve Spurrier's 39-year record for consecutive completions with 17 straight.

Leak also was sacked four times and fumbled two snaps from the shotgun.

“In case you're wondering what the offense should look like, that wasn't it,” Meyer said afterward. “We have a lot of work to do. Chris Leak and the offense have a long way to go.”

The unit did finish with 411 total yards, with Chad Jackson catching 10 balls for 138 yards and all three Leak TDs. Jackson also scored in the fourth quarter on a reverse.
