No. 2 Florida Heads to No. 10 Georgia for SEC Showdown

The Gators (22-1, 3-0 SEC) are coming off of a series sweep of then ranked No. 23 Kentucky at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium during SEC Opening Weekend.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The second-ranked Florida softball team continues Southeastern Conference play this weekend (Mar. 16-18) when the team travels to Athens, Ga. to take on No. 10 Georgia at Jack Turner Stadium.

The Gators (22-1, 3-0 SEC) are coming off of a series sweep of then ranked No. 23 Kentucky at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium during SEC Opening Weekend. The series sweep is the first of the year and it's the 14th-straight time that UF has won an SEC series.

The last time Florida dropped a conference series was against Alabama during the 2016 season.

Every game that the Gators play against Georgia (24-1, 3-0 SEC) will be broadcast on WGGG (92.1 FM/1230 AM) & WMOP (100.1 FM/900 AM). Kyle Crooks and former Gator softball standout Kelsey Horton will have the call for each game.

This weekend's series will also be broadcast on the SEC Network + via WatchESPN.com or the WatchESPN app. Kaleb Frady and Kristina Hilberth Wyatt will host the entire weekend. Fans might recognize the name Kristina Hilberth as she was prominent player for the Gators from 2006-'09.

At the conclusion of this series, Florida will return home for a 10-game homestand.

Notable Notes
  • Kelly Barnhill picked up a pair of shutouts, which included the fifth complete game no-hitter of career, this past weekend against then ranked No. 23/22 Kentucky. The talented junior shut down what was then the fifth-ranked offense (.353 batting average) in the country and limited them to just a .091 batting average.
  • The Gators haven't dropped a regular season series to the Bulldogs since the 2011 season when Georgia swept Florida in Gainesville. In 2017, UF swept UGA in Gainesville.
  • Amanda Lorenz continues to stay white-hot at the plate. The Moorpark, Calif. native has reached safely in all 23 games so far this season and reached safely in all but two games last year.
  • Georgia ranks 16th nationally in stolen bases (52) and boasts the nation's leader in stolen bases per game, Cortni Emanuel, but last year only managed to go 1-for-4 on stolen base attempts in the series against Florida. Janell Wheaton threw out Cortni Emanuel twice in the series, once trying to steal third and once trying to take second base.
Parking & Shuttle Information
Due to the expected high-volume of general patrons attending the Florida at Georgia series March 16-18, UGA Athletics will provide a charter bus shuttle on March 17th & 18th from Livestock Arena to the Jack Turner Stadium and return patrons to their vehicles at the conclusion of the game.

The bus will drop off and pick up patrons at the top of the hill near the first base entrance of Jack Turner and will run until two hours post-game. It's advised that those planning to attend the series arrive early due to the expected high-volume of traffic.
