No. 7 Gators Prepare for Penn & Sunshine Showdown with Florida State

Tuesday's game against the Quakers (7-5) marks the first meeting between the two programs, while Wednesday's game against Florida State (17-6) is 44th all-time meeting.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 7 Florida continues its homestand with a pair of midweek contests against Penn, Tuesday at 2 p.m., and for the first installment of the Sunshine Showdown against Florida State, Wednesday at 6 p.m.
 
The Gators game Wednesday against the Seminoles can be viewed via SEC Network + through WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app on mobile devices. Fans can also follow along by listening along on WGGG (92.1 FM/1230 AM) & WMOP (100.1 FM/900 AM).
 
Tuesday's game against the Quakers (7-5) marks the first meeting between the two programs, while Wednesday's game against Florida State (17-6) is 44th all-time meeting.
 
UF enters this week after it picked up a series sweep Southeastern Conference Opening Weekend against Auburn. Left-handed pitcher Rylee Trlicek (9-2) became the first Florida freshman to throw complete-game shutouts in their first two SEC starts and sophomore Cheyenne Lindsey wrapped up the series going 8-for-11 at the plate.
 
Penn comes into tomorrow's game after it went 2-3 at The Spring Games in Longwood, Fla., while Florida State went 5-0 at the same tournament this past weekend.

Lindsey Starts SEC Play on Fire
Sophomore Cheyenne Lindsey lead the conference with eight hits and ranks third in batting average .727 (8-for-11) after three games played during SEC Opening Weekend. The Chattanooga, Tenn. native is also tied for the most runs scored (5) and is tied for second in the conference standings in RBI (5) and total bases (12).
 
Pitchers Shine on SEC Opening Weekend
Junior Natalie Lugo and Trlicek shut down Auburn batters during SEC Opening Weekend and held the Tigers to just one run, which is the second fewest runs allowed in program history through the first three games of SEC play.

Gators vs. In-State Opponents
Over the years the Gators boast a 189-47 (.798) record against in-state opponents and an even better record under head coach Tim Walton. Since Walton took over the program in 2006, he holds a 138-17 (.890) against in-state opponents.
 
This season the Gators are 5-0 against in-state competition with wins over South Florida, UNF, Florida A&M, Jacksonville & FGCU. The team is also scheduled to play USF and Jacksonville again, along with UCF and Bethune-Cookman throughout the rest of the season.
