GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 6 Florida continues non-conference action this Saturday and Sunday against Louisville and McNeese State at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Gators (9-0) will take on the Cardinals (3-4) Saturday at 1 p.m. on the SEC Network+, and then compete against Louisville and McNeese State (3-7) in a doubleheader Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
Florida dispatched UNF, 8-0 (5), Thursday night behind a two-hit shutout thrown by pitchers
Natalie Lugo and Ryle Trlicek and five multi-hit performances from
Hannah Adams (3-for-4),
Kendyl Lindaman (2-for-3),
Charla Echols (2-for-4),
Cheyenne Lindsey (2-for-3) and
Julia Cottrill (2-for-2).
UF's pitching staff has been solid for much of 2021 as the group hasn't allowed more than five hits in any game so far this season and currently is tied for second in the nation with five shutout games. Additionally, the staff has only allowed nine runs, seven earned, over 57.0 innings pitched which is the fewest number relinquished by any team in the country this season with a minimum of 50.0 innings pitched.
Reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week,
Katie Chronister (4-0), has been instrumental in the staff's success as she has unblemished 0.00 ERA through 16.0 innings pitched. Only two other pitchers in the country have 0.00 ERAs with a minimum 16.0 innings of work – Carley Jo Clark (18.0 IP) of Southern Illinois and Alyssa Denham (16.0 IP) from Arizona.
At the plate, the Gators continue to stay hot as the team turned in its fifth game with 10 or more hits against UNF. Echols leads Florida with a .536 average and is supported by Adams (.500), Lindsey (.480), Lindaman (.385) and
Jaimie Hoover (.364).
Louisville enters this weekend having won its last three games against Virginia and N.C. State. The Cardinals defeated both Virginia and N.C. State, 5-4, Saturday, Feb. 20, and closed out the ACC Pod Weekend with a 4-0 win against Virginia.
McNeese State will enter the lone Sunday contest already with a Top 25 win under its belt as the Cowgirls defeated then-ranked No. 20 Arkansas, 7-4, in the Cowgirl Classic Saturday, Feb. 20. They also took No. 7 Louisiana to extra-innings this past Wednesday and will play a three-game series against No. 22 UCF before coming to Gainesville.
