JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Florida softball team down North Florida, 7-1, Tuesday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex. Senior
Cheyenne Lindsey went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples, which tied the UF single-game record.
The Gators (11-0) picked up a complete-game performance from the circle by freshman
Lexie Delbrey (4-0). It was the Bainbridge, Ga. native's third complete-game of the season as she only allowed one run on four hits, two walks and struck out seven. The lone run scored was via a home run by Paige Pfent in the 6
th inning.
Offensively UF capitalized on a multitude of UNF (8-2) errors, seven to be exact, to take the first meeting of the midweek series. Florida's speed on the bases were the main cause for the unpolished play in the field from the Ospreys.
In the 2
nd inning, Lindsey crushed her first triple of the evening down the right field line to lead off the inning.
Avery Goelz stepped into the box to deliver a sharply hit ground ball that snuck under the outstretched backhanded attempt of UNF shortstop Savannah Channell to score Lindsey and give UF a 1-0 lead.
Florida struck for two more runs in the 3
rd inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Hannah Adams reached third base at the start of the frame as UNF right fielder Logan Jackson dropped the fly ball ranging from right to right center field.
Skylar Wallace followed up with a sharply hit ball to Channell at short that took a bad hop to put Gators on 1
st and 3
rd  and then stole second, which prompted a throwing error on the Ospreys catcher Paige Pfent who tried to pickoff Adams at third. The throw sailed high and Adams scampered home for the second run.
Wallace scored later in the inning on yet another throwing error by the right fielder as she tagged from second on a flyout and the throw to third sailed high to allow the speedy Wallace to score.
The Gators scored once in the 5
th thanks to another error, this time by UNF second baseman Kayla McGory. Lindsey sent a chopper that went between the legs of McGory to score Echols and extend the lead out to 4-0.
Wallace pushed the lead out to 5-0 with an RBI single up the middle in the 6
th frame that scored speedy freshman
Kendra Falby and scored two more in the 7
th after another fielding error by Channell at short.
The Gators and the Ospreys return to action Wednesday evening at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and will be streamed via SEC Network+.
