GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The third-ranked Florida softball team continues play at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium this Friday through Sunday with the T-Mobile Tournament that includes games against UCONN, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Delaware State.
The Gators' (5-0) offense is off to the best start in program history as the program has scored 65 runs over the opening five games of the season. The mark also is tied for the second most runs scored by a Southeastern Conference program in the first five games of a season. In 2019 LSU scored the same amount of runs during the opening five games and Auburn scored 87 runs to open their 2016 season.
The results tied the record number of runs produced by the offense has resulted in run-rule victories over every opponent this season in five innings.
Overall, the Orange & Blue's offense is batting .430 (49-for-114) with six doubles, a triple and 10 home runs. Individually, all nine starters are batting above .300 with six hitting above .400 and
Charla Echols (.538),
Sam Roe (.500) and
Skylar Wallace (.500) each hitting .500 or better.
The Florida pitching staff has been just as impressive to start the 2023 campaign. The duo of
Elizabeth Hightower (2-0) and
Rylee Trlicek (3-0) have combined for 21 2/3 innings and have allowed only one earned run. Hightower is holding batters to a .071 average at the plate and has struck out 12 compared to only one walk. The Monticello, Fla. native has also already been a part of a pair of one-hitters this season as well.
This weekend's slate of games will feature audio only broadcasts for all of Florida's games which every game can be found on FloridaGators.com or the Varsity App. Saturday's two games against Bowling Green and UCONN will also air on ESPN 98.1 FM/850 AM WRUF.
