Gators Challenged in Loss to No. 7 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 21 Gators were shutout at No. 7 Michigan Tuesday evening, falling 7-0. The loss marks UF's second of the 2025 non-conference slate, after the Gators fell 4-1 to No. 22 LSU on Sunday Feb. 2.

Despite the final score, Florida fought hard against the top-10 Wolverines. The Gators rallied in in the doubles category with two courts being forced into extra games. Michigan started doubles play with a victory on court three, as Lily Jones and Ava Bruno defeated Nikola Daubnerova and Noémie Oliveras 6-2.

On courts one and two, UF made it a tall task for the Wolverines to close out with both matches being knotted at 5-5. Alicia Dudeney and Bente Spee saw success in their net play but Michigan found a way to mitigate their dominance up front, ultimately closing out 7-5. When play concluded on court one to give UM the doubles point, Rachel Gailis and Talia Neilson-Gatenby found themselves with an 6-5 advantage over Julia Fliegner and Reese Miller.

Singles play proved to be an even bigger uphill battle for Florida as they fell in straight sets on courts two through six. Gailis was the only Gator who secured a set off the Wolverines on Tuesday evening, taking her second set 6-3. Gailis fell 6-2 in her initial set against Fliegner before making a comeback effort in the second to force a match tiebreaker. The last court out ultimately finished in favor of Michigan with a final score of 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.
