No. 3 Gators Blast Past Troy & Western Michigan

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 3 Florida softball team recorded back-to-back run-rule victories on Saturday afternoon, downing Troy, 11-2, and Western Michigan, 10-2, on the second day of the Florida Invitational.

The Gators (22-1) combined for seven home runs on the day, led by senior Reagan Walsh who had three, including her second grand slam of the season.

Walsh and junior Kenleigh Cahalan both went a team-best 5-for-7 (.714) at the plate, with Walsh driving in six and Cahalan driving in four.

In the circle, freshman Katelynn Oxley (3-0) and sophomore Ava Brown (5-0) each picked up victories, allowing just four runs on the day, while striking out a combined nine batters.

NOTABLES:
  • 12 different Gators have combined for 43 home runs – Taylor Shumaker (11), Mia Williams (6), Jocelyn Erickson (6), Reagan Walsh (5), Kenleigh Cahalan (5), Korbe Otis (3), Rylee Holtorf (2), Gabi Comia (1), Ava Brown (1), Brooke Barnard (1), Kendra Falby (1) and Cassidy McLellan (1)
  • Reagan Walsh hit three home runs on the day – a grand slam and two solo home runs  
    • She has now hit two grand slams as a senior – vs. Western Michigan and Michigan (Feb. 8) – and five in her career   
    • Walsh now has 190 career RBIs and 38 career home runs – which both rank as eighth most in program history
  • Junior Kenleigh Cahalan went 4-for-4 against Troy, the first four-hit game of her career
    • Cahalan also hit her second grand slam of the season – vs. Troy and at GCU (Feb. 22)
  • Brown hit her first home run of the season and 14th of her career. It was just the second home run she's hit at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium – 12 of the 13 she hit as a freshman were on the road
  • Senior Kendra Falby stole three bases on the day – bringing her season total to 24 and career total to 106
    • Falby needs seven more stolen bases to move into a tie with Kelsey Stewart (113) for second-most in Florida program history. Skylar Wallace (119) currently holds the program record
  • With four hits on Saturday, Falby moved into third all-time in program history in career hits (282). Amanda Lorenz sits at second with 303 and Kelsey Stewart holds the school record with 357
  • Falby has reached base in all 23 games this season
  • Florida has six grand slams this season – two each from Cahalan, Walsh and senior Rylee Holtorf
  • Four different Gators combined for four home runs against Troy: Brown, Cahalan, Walsh and Williams
  • It's the second time this season that Florida has had four home runs in a game. The last time was vs. Michigan on Feb. 8
  • The Gators have outscored opponents 214 to 40. Florida's offense has hit 43 home runs but the Florida pitching staff has allowed just four total to opponents
  • Florida has had multi-home run games in 13 games, including in six of the last seven
  • The Gators have run-ruled opponents 15 times and in five straight games
