The Dazzlers is the official dance team of the Florida Gators and an ambassador program of the University Athletic Association, Inc. (UAA) and the University of Florida.
As a gameday team, The Dazzlers performs at all home football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, gymnastics meets, select volleyball games, and other athletic contests upon request. There are several opportunities for team members to travel throughout the year which may include away and neutral-site football and basketball games and tournaments, coaches’ speaking tours, and other appearances.
In addition to providing support for the Florida Gators, The Dazzlers also takes pride in connecting with the local Gainesville community through outreach and service initiatives as well as appearances at various events.
A typical “week in the life” may include:
- 5 practices (8+ hours total)
- 2 workouts (1 hour each)
- 1-3 community service initiatives or appearances
- 1-3 athletic contests
- 1 leadership meeting with Coach (1 hour)
The Dazzlers is a fully funded program within UAA Marketing, and covers team members’ practice and performance gear, travel expenses and meals, equipment, clinic participation, local gym membership to Gainesville Health and Fitness, access to sports health staff, and semester scholarships which vary in amount based on years of participation and leadership involvement.
In order to remain eligible for participation and scholarship, team members must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA as well as UF full-time student status, and participate successfully in tryouts each spring. Aside from its focus on continued development as dancers, The Dazzlers also places emphasis on fostering individuals’ growth as selfless teammates, leaders in their professions, and women of purposeful influence.
