FLORIDA FALLS TO NORTH CAROLINA 9-0 IN NCAA QUARTERFINALS

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 8 University of Florida soccer team (22-3) fell to top seeded North Carolina (23-1) 9-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Soccer Tournament Saturday in front of a crowd of 1,023 at Fetzer Field. The nine goals scored by UNC ties the NCAA record for most goals scored in a single NCAA Tournament match. North Carolina will advance to the final four of the NCAA Tournament that will be played in Santa Clara, Calif. It will be UNC's 15th straight appearance in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.

Eight different players scored goals for the Tar Heels Saturday. Rakel Karvelson led all scorers with two goals and one assist. Karvelson scored her back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart in the second half at 70:48 and 72:30. Sarah Dacey, Nicole Roberts and Tiffany Roberts each scored a single goal and an assist for the Tar Heels, while Aubrey Falk scored a goal and two assists. North Carolina began the first half with a 5-0 lead, the largest lead ever given up by the Gators. Dacey put the Tar Heels on the scoreboard at 5:28 on a four-yard goal. Confer, a junior All-American, scored less than four minutes later on a header off a cross. Keller, a senior All-American, netted the third goal at 28:48 on a six-yarder. UNC's Nel Fettig scored on a penalty kick at 41:07 after a handball was called on the Gators'
Katie Tullis. Falk capped off the first half for UNC with an unassisted 15-yard goal at 42:54.
The second half opened with UNC's Nicole Roberts scoring at 62:06 off the assist from Falk. Tiffany Roberts would score less than two minutes later off the double assist from Karvelson and Keller. Karvelson's back-to-back goals would give UNC its final goals to end the match 9-0.
