GAINESVILLE, Fla. ‑ The University of Florida soccer team advanced to its second straight Southeastern Conference Tournament final with a 3-1 semifinal win over Georgia Friday in front of a Percy Beard Stadium crowd of 1,156.
The match was very physical from the beginning. There was 41 fouls and UGA's leading scorer, Stephanie Yarem was ejected in the first half after a tackle on forward
Andi Sellers.
Erin Baxter scored the first Gator goal with her second goal in as many days with a header off a free kick from defender
Kerri Doran at the 12:14 mark of the first half.
Sarah Yohe's six-yard shot from
Melissa Pini gave the Gators a 2-0 advantage. Georgia's Allison Thornbury cut the UF lead in half at the 36:10 point of the first half with an assist from Veronica Johnston.
The Gators put the game away with
Sarah Yohe's third goal of the tournament with nine seconds remaining in the match.
The Gators (18-2-1) face Vanderbilt(14-6), the only SEC team to defeat the Gators this year, Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final. Vanderbilt defeated Kentucky 3-2 with a in the earlier match to advance to its first final since claiming the 1994 SEC title.
