Florida Soccer Team Defeats South Carolina 5-0 to Finish SEC Regular Season Undefeated

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 2 University of Florida soccer team completed its second consecutive undefeated Southeastern Conference regular season Friday by defeating South Carolina 5-0 Friday evening in front of a Percy Beard Stadium crowd of 2,025. The win ups UF's 1999 overall record to 17-1 and completes the Gators' SEC regular season with a 9-0 mark. South Carolina is now 14-5, 6-3 in the league.

The win ups UF's 1999 overall record to 17-1 and completes the Gators' SEC regular season with a 9-0 mark. South Carolina is now 14-5, 6-3 in the league.
 
Senior captain Sarah Yohe gave the Gators a 1-0 halftime lead at 41:55. She shot the ball from the corner of the box, which rebounded off USC goalkeeper Carolyn Ortega and Yohe put the ball in the net from one-yard. The goal also marked Yohe's 18th career game-winning goal, which matches the UF record shared by Danielle Fotopoulos and Melissa Pini.
 
Within a seven-minute second-half span, the Gators scored three goals. Abby Wambach headed a free kick to Yohe, who crossed the ball to Sellers. Sellers took the ball off the bounce and hit the goal from 10 yards at 55:05. Yohe hit her second goal of the evening at 60:06, taking the ball from a Mitts' clear at midfield and streaked toward the goal to score from eight-yards. Sellers hit her second goal at 61:43. The scoring play again was started with Mitts, who sent the ball ahead to Yohe. Yohe cross the ball to Sellers for a nine-yard sliding volley.
 
Freshman Erica "Boo" Schubert finished UF's scoring at 85:05, hitting a 22-yard curler to the upper left corner.
 
"I felt we played well the entire game," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "We finished better in the second half, but overall, I was pleased with our play for the whole match.
 
"Going through the SEC regular-season undefeated is a big deal for us. We take a lot of pride in that and it was one of our goals heading into the season," she continued.
 
UF's starting goalkeeper Jordan Kellgren turned in one save in 66 minutes of playing time and her replacement, Regan Wiesemann, also had one save. USC's Ortega turned in six saves on Friday. For the match, Florida outshot the Gamecocks 30-6.
 
The Gators finish the regular-season on Sunday, Oct. 31 by playing host to No. 9 Clemson. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Percy Beard Stadium and admission is free.
