GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer continues road action Sunday at Oklahoma State. Match time is 1 p.m. ET at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
This is the only match of the weekend for Florida as Friday's match at No. 1 Florida State was cancelled after Hurricane Hermine hit the area late Thursday evening.
Last Weekend:
Florida split its two overtime matches in the Golden State last weekend. The weekend opened with a 1-0 OT loss at Stanford. On Sunday, the Gators took a 4-3 OT win at No. 15 UCLA.
Savannah Jordan played a role in each Gator goal scored in each period – first, second and overtime. Both of her goals in regulation were off headers as she scored the first goal of the match and then tied the score at 3-all in the 73
rd minute. In overtime, Jordan took the pass from
Gabby Seiler and drove through the Bruin half. Her cross in the box deflected off a Bruin defender and scored in the 96
th minute. The Gators also got a goal from
Sarah Troccoli in the first half. Sophomore
Kaylan Marckese turned in 10 saves over the weekend – including six at Stanford and a penalty kick stop at UCLA. She picked up the
Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday.
This will be the second consecutive home match versus a Sunshine State opponent for Oklahoma State, as the Cowgirls lost 3-2 in overtime to Central Florida Friday. Sunday's match is the midway point of a five-match home stand for OSU. Oklahoma State has already faced two SEC opponents, defeating preseason No. 8 Texas A&M 2-0 in an Aug. 13 exhibition and then opened the season with a 2-2 2OT tie at Georgia. Friday, OSU met Central Florida Friday in Stillwater. Oklahoma State is picked to take fifth in the 2016 Big 12. Two Cowgirl seniors appear on the Big 12 Preseason team – forward Courtney Dike and defender Natalie Calhoun.
