Gators’ Road Show Continues Sunday at Vanderbilt

During the last TWO games - both decided by single digits - Ronni Williams averaged 23.5 points and converted 86.4 percent (19-22) from the free throw line.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – UF plays its 16th game on the road, as the team travels to Nashville and faces Vanderbilt on Sun., January 29.
 
The game will not have television coverage, but can be viewed online via SEC Network+.
 
Back Again
  • This is the second of three games the Gators are playing in the state of Tennessee this year.
  • Florida traveled to and defeated Chattanooga, 72-61, on November 14 in the team's second game of the year.
  • The Gators wrap up their three-game trip to the Volunteer State on February 23, when the team plays Tennessee in Knoxville.
 
The Series: Florida vs. Vanderbilt
  • 55-game Series: UF trails 22-33 (UF Home: 11-13; Away: 8-16; Neutral: 3-4)
  • Florida won last year's game against Vanderbilt, 79-67, in Gainesville.
  • Seven of the last 10 games in the series have been decided by single digits, and all 10 have been decided by 12 points or less.
  • Three of the last eight games have gone to overtime.
  • Florida has won three of the last four against Vandy, which has won six of the last 10 versus the Gators.
  • Each of the last 11 meetings in the series have come during the month of February. This is the first time the teams are meeting in January since Jan. 31, 2008.
 
Flashback
  • In last year's regular-season game against Vanderbilt, the Gators scored 79 points.
  • Only 27 of those points were scored by Gators who will be suiting up on Sunday.
 
What Just Happened
  • Florida lost an 84-75 decision to Tennessee in Gainesville on Thursday and dropped to 1-6 in SEC games. It was the Gator's third consecutive game decided by single digits.
  • Vanderbilt halted its seven-game slide and earned its first SEC win of the season, an 87-80 home victory against Alabama
 
Gator Watch
  • Ronni Williams - the lone four-year senior on the roster - led UF in scoring as a sophomore and junior and is doing so again this season.
  • Williams became the 24th Gator to score 1,000 career points, doing so on Dec. 3 vs. Long Beach State.
  • She became the 15th Gator to collect 700 career rebounds, eclipsing the mark on January 5 at LSU.
  • In addition to leading the Gators in scoring with 18.3 points per game, Williams also leads the Gators in rebounding (7.5 pg), field goal percentage (56.7) and free throw percentage (74.2%) and is second for assists (51) this year.
 
Who's Hot

  • Junior Haley Lorenzen averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds over the last two games.
 
Local Flavor
  • UF Head Coach Amanda Butler and junior Brooke Copeland are natives of the Volunteer State.
  • Butler hails from Mt. Juliet, located just 20 miles from Nashville. Her parents, Steve and Barbara Butler, still reside in Mt. Juliet.
  • Copeland is from Cleveland, Tenn., located approximately 163 miles from Nashville (about a 2:30 drive).
  • Copeland graduated from Bradley Central High School, the same place as former Lady Vol All-American Brittany Jackson.
 
Familiar Face
  • Former UF head coach Carolyn Peck took a break from the sideline following her five years leading the Gators (2002-07) and turned her talents to the broadcast booth where she worked for ESPN.
  • In the Spring of 2016, her alma mater came calling and brought her back into the coaching world.
  • Peck is now in her first year as an associate coach at Vanderbilt.
  • Guided UF to a 72-76 overall record, 24-46 in SEC action.
 
Notes from Florida's Last Game: lost at home to Tennessee, 84-75 (Jan. 26)
  • Ronni Williams scored a game-high 31 points, but the Gator's first-half defense came back to haunt them, as Florida dropped an 84-75 decision to Tennessee.
  • The Lady Vols used an 18-2 run over a 4:34 span in the first quarter and built a 23-6 lead with 3:03 remaining in the first period.
  • Florida outscored Tennessee, 41-36, in the second half and even cut its deficit to eight points with 3:24 reaming and to within six points, 81-75, with 16 seconds remaining, however, the Lady Vols, closed out the game at the free throw line, converting 3-of-4 the rest of the way, capping a solid effort of 27-of-35 from the line during the game.
  • Florida dominating the rebound effort, 42-30, with 21 coming on the offensive end.
